Back into rehearsal ...

We reconvened this evening in Cambridge to start our final burst of rehearsals. A couple of hours, with Alex Lamb of Amazing Spectacles watching us run scenes and all of us discussing them at various levels. I keep on realising how much stuff is going on somewhere - our last night at the Playroom, for instance, Alex pointed out archetypes and structure emerging in the first scene which I barely noticed until after we'd finished. All of which confirms my suspicion that narrative skills are in some way intrinsic - that people naturally produce certain story structures without thinking about it. Of course, the trick is to make them interesting ...

We actually have almost everything in place now - accomodation sorted, Susie has tracked down crates for us, printing is underway - and I thought at this stage I'd just want to get on with the show. Except now it's looming in front of us, I suddenly want another week or two of rehearsals - forget that the Playroom run went well, forget that we're confident and know what we're doing. Surely there's been a mistake? We can't actually be anywhere near ready ...
