Out of mind experiences

Brains have beeen wobbling like so many jellies on plates all over Cambridge this week at the thought of coming to see "OOYM" at the Playroom of Corpus Christi College.

The college was, of course, founded in 6 BC by the infant King Herod. Originally called "Smite Ye, Heathens, College", it was later renamed. To this day, all references to Herod in the college chaplain's bible must be altered to refer to "our interesting founder".

Post show we had: A marvellous curry at Cafe Naz. No gibberish jokes. Lots of gossip. A lava lamp.

And now a few weeks rest (well, rest is putting it a bit strongly) before we return to the fray, North of the Border.

Comments

Three things on which I wish to pass comment. [Actually 5 - ed.]

1. There actually was one gibberish joke at the curry. I told it.

2. I also performed a visual gag with a lemon which almost ruined Mr Ormerod's evening.

3. The lava lamp was BRILLIANT! I don't know if you've ever watched one, certainly we saw it in more detail than I think any lamp has ever been analysed in, for an hour of so it hangs there like a purple elephant man, then it gradually starts to evaporate blobs of an almost imperceptible nature which coalesce into more blobs all rising like bubbles in lemonade but just when you think they've gone they drop back down in a way which is entirely unlike lemonade and finally start to join together into really big blobs, then you just get the big blobs arguing over who's the biggest blob and tumbling over each other like sheep in a field or the flashback scenes in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" and finally the blobs form into people who utter words of great wisdom and perform operettas in made up languages and what a wonderment it was.

4. I almost feel I should apologise for my behaviour, specifically the lemon gag, but deary me what rubbish I was talking. I didn't even go to bed when I got home, I sat up half the night watching the video for Bowie's 1983 hit "Modern Love" again and again. It's not even a very good song, even less so a good video.

5. The others have all been very patient with me.

I am contrite, disgusted, repentant, horrified and bamboozled that I missed your Cambridge run, after promising that I would come. Especially seeing as how the gigs seem to have gone well. I just didn't know the dates. I knew it was in July, but you caught me unawares.

Sorry.

I will attend your wonderful show in Edinburgh, towards the end of that Fringe thing I believe they have running. I will also try and make amends for my woeful failure this far by visiting your website frequently and leaving messages from fictitious members of the public claiming that you are the cleverest improvisors since Adam asked Eve what they could possibly use all these fig leaves for.

See you soon and good luck old boys.

I'd also like to point out that the website that my name links to is an unofficial fan site and not in any way endorsed by Philip Stott.
