improvised theatre

Tiddy oggies etc

We've now done two shows in London and, what with the late night train journeys back to Cambridge, the early starts to do admin for Cambridge City Council, cycling around in all this wet weather and my current diet of pork pies from Sainsbury's and cornish pasties from the stand at King's Cross, parts of my body have stopped working properly. Bits of my face, in particular, and half of my neck appears to be permanently paralysed - perhaps I'm sleeping at the wrong angle.

In spite of this, it's all been a lot of fun. Our first show was the only time we've ever improvised a play based on the seven sacraments - more critical members of the audience pointed out that we missed out marriage, but I think we did jolly well to remember the other six.

Due to Ali Glennon ailing from something nasty, yesterday's show saw a unique return to the line-up used in Out of Your Mind, whereby Andrew Pontzen was actually allowed out from behind the keyboard to do some acting. A risky business indeed, but the story that unfolded, about a lawyer discovering the secret of guinness and thus provoking extreme actions from both the American nation and London's sinister guild of surveyors, was very satisfying. Who'd have thought that guinness was actually made from liquorice and soap?

Tonight I am not doing the show because I have to go to a radio awards ceremony - an item of mine has been nominated and, well, I thought it would be rude not to pop along. Of course, I'd far rather be doing the show than drinking champagne with a whole load of boring radio people, but that's life. And canapes will make a welcome change from cornish pasties.
